Sam Recycles

A
legend
of
the
Watts
Towers...

"Sonnamabitch!" Sam screams as his old car,
a Hudson, sputters to a stop and dies.

"I can't believe I bought this piece of junk!"

Methodically, he strips it to the frame
and buries it beside his rundown shack.

He hauls the Hudson's remnants to his tower.

"This car,"he shouts,"she's going up to heaven!"

Climbing to ninety feet, he spreads cement,
then sets the Hudson's hubcaps into it--

reflecting mirrors for the cycling sun.

In his shack below, a scratchy record booms
"La forza del destino" as he stands
his tiny dashboard angel on the spire.
